UNHCR operational highlights

  • The awareness campaign on the multi-year resettlement operation of Congolese refugees took place from January 22 to 28 in several communes of Bujumbura. The aim was to give all the information on this operation and to raise awareness about responsible behavior from refugees to enable the operation to be run efficiently. The campaign has reached nearly 3,000 people on 20,000 urban refugees.

  • The distribution of clothes donated by the Japanese people began with the month of January in all refugee camps in Burundi. The donation consists of 1,064 balloons of clothes worth 59. 988 U.S. dollars will relieve the needs of refugees in terms of clothes especially in this rainy season.

  • "Refugees on the move" is a new project around the dance that began last December and continues in the Refugees camps for Congolese in Burundi. UNHCR Burundi is in partnership with the NGO African Artists for Development (AAD) and local artists for its realization.
