Shelter Cluster Burundi Factsheet: Shelter and NFI Response 2018, 2018 Annual Report

Highlights

  • More than 30,000 people received housing and non-food item (NFI) assistance in 11 provinces in 2018.

  • 5,022 IDPs were relocated to Rumonge and Bujumbura Rural after the decommissioning of the four IDP sites.

  • 57,000 refugees from Tanzania under the VolRep received an NFI kit and a multipurpose cash grant.

  • Sector warehouse in Bujumbura consolidated for emergency response. National contingency stock ready to serve more than 600HH from Bujumbura and Gitega.

  • Strong increase in cash activities for shelter activities.

  • Improvement of the natural disaster and returnee response in the last months of 2018 thanks to CERF UFE.

Challenges

  • Lack of funding for emergency response, including lack of in-kind donations.

  • After the food emergency response of April/May, the sector warehouse was emptied. NFI kits and Emergency Shelters must be refilled before next rainy season.

  • Diffcult access to afected areas due to road conditions

  • HLP challenges. Returnees unable to provide documentation.
