I. Introduction
- The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 2090 (2013), in which the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB) and requested the Secretary-General to inform it of progress in implementing the mandate of BNUB, as assessed against the benchmarks jointly agreed with the Government of Burundi, with a view to determining the future evolution of BNUB into a United Nations country team presence. The present report provides an update since the previous report of 18 January 2013 (S/2013/36), and is structured around eight benchmarks and the findings of the strategic assessment mission, which was conducted in Burundi pursuant to resolution 2090 (2013). In the annex to the present report, baselines and indicators of progress are reviewed in additional detail.
