President Jacob Zuma will, at the request of the Chairperson of the African Union, His Excellency Idriss Deby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad, lead an African Union High-Level Delegation of Heads of State and Government to Bujumbura, in the Republic of Burundi on 25-26 February 2016.
The African Union Summit, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, decided on 31 January 2016 that, regarding Burundi, an inclusive political dialogue must be supported under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Mr Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The Summit decided, further, to dispatch a High-Level Delegation to meet with the highest authorities of the Republic of Burundi, as well as with other Burundian stakeholders, to hold consultations on the inclusive inter-Burundian dialogue.
The members of the High-Level Delegation, each representing their respective Regional Economic Community, include:
- H.E. President Jacob Zuma of South Africa (convenor and leader);
- H.E. President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania;
- H.E. President Macky Sall of Senegal;
- H.E. President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon; and
- H.E. Mr Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
President Zuma will be accompanied by the Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
