MAG Burundi Monthly Update - Oct 2008

Burundian Army (FDN):

The MANPADS destruction is completed and the weapons destruction is carrying on at the destruction workshop.

The main work of the improvement of the Logistic Base has been completed however a second extension of the North perimeter has been requested to secure other ammunition stores.

Burundian Police (PNB):

MAG Mobile Team is carrying on collect of weapons/ammunition seized by the police. In order to increase the safety of armouries and ammunition stores police handovers to MAG hazardous and unserviceable weapons/ammunition held by them.

Two TFMs have been deployed to support Nairobi Protocol, Art 6, 7 and 8. The 3 main objectives are the following:

- Assessment of quantity and quality of weapons/ammunition held by the police;

- Assessment of armouries/weapons facilities;

- Assessment the level of knowledge in term of weapons management.

This 5 months project will allow leading new projects.
