Context

Since the beginning of the rainy season in September 2023 to June 2024, more than 298,000 people (54% are women) were affected by torrential rains, floods, landslides and the overflowing of Lake Tanganyika due to the El Niño phenomenon. These disasters destroyed or partially damaged homes, classrooms, health facilities, roads, crops, water networks and electrical installations.
