Food insecurity expected to improve with 2011B harvest in areas of concern
Food security for poor households in the two cropping areas of Kirundo (Depression du Nord) and Cankuzo (Depression de l’Est) has been of concern in recent months due to low food availability and constrained access because of deteriorating household purchasing power. If rains perform well as forecasted, food security concerns in these areas are likely to ease in the coming months with the 2011B harvest and expected decrease in prices of key staples. FEWS NET will continue to monitor the effects of the first season rains and prices on food security conditions in these at‐risk areas.
