Background

Main causes of displacement in Burundi are natural disasters, political and socio economic issues. From the 173k IDPs, 70% have been displaced due to natural disaster, while 30% due to the socio-political situation. The country has received 65k refugees from DRC, displaced by conflict in South and North Kivu. Finally, 91% of the Burundian refugees fled the country after the 2015 political crisis.
