Description
According to the international media, the M23 rebel group may have occupied the two cities (Bukavu) in South and North Kivu (Goma) Provinces not far from Burundi. Till Saturday 15th February 2025, many asylum seekers have already crossed the border between DRC and Burundi. According to the Provincial Disaster Platform Management of Cibitoke and Bubanza, the number of asylum seekers was estimated at 15,198 persons. Up to now, the flow of asylum seekers is also reported in Bujumbura and Bujumbura Mairie. Those asylum seekers are hosted in Gihanga Commune (Bubanza Province), Buganda Commune (Site Kabuye) and Rugombo Commune (Site Cishemere) both in Cibitoke Province.
