ACCORD returns from training military observers in Burundi

As part of ACCORD's contribution to the peace process in Burundi, the Peacekeeping Programme organised a country orientation workshop for the African Union Military Observers in that country from the 1-3 March.
This activity was part of ACCORD's DFID-funded Burundi Programme and was attended by thirty-five military observers from Burkina Faso, Gabon, Mali, Togo and Tunisia.

The programme contained sections with briefings on the cultural elements defining the country, political aspects regarding the cease fire negotiations, the human rights situation in the country, a humanitarian briefing on the provinces they will be deployed in, and the work of the leading political role players such as the African Union office in that country. This workshop also presented ACCORD with an opportunity to work with the Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA, who hosted the event.
