Highlights

  • The total estimated annual caseload of children under 5 with severe acute malnutrition is 100,000 children in 2012. A cumulative total 67,838 children have been treated between January and August 2012. UNICEF’s nutrition team succeeded in supporting the Ministry of Health/Nutrition Directorate to improve the reporting system that now provides admissions data on a monthly basis. In August 2012, data are completed at 84%. Monthly admissions for severe acute malnutrition amounted to 3,983 children treated in ambulatory without complications and 542 children admitted with complications.

  • A supervision and working mission was conducted by the UNICEF Representative and all sections concerned in the Sahel region from 11 to 13 September. The objective of the mission was to meet the partners and review UNICEF’s contribution to the cholera response and Malians refugee crisis response.
