The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre signed two agreements to support the most vulnerable displaced families and host communities in both Burkina Faso and Cameroon.
The two agreements, signed on December 31, were valued at a total of US$1,461,026. Under the first agreement, US$666,666 will be allocated to support the provision of non-food relief items, such as thermal blankets, cooking utensils and solar lamps, to approximately 17,000 internally displaced persons across Burkina Faso, to help them meet their basic and urgent protection needs in a climate of insecurity and successive waves of displacement.
The second agreement, valued at US$794,360, will support the provision of emergency shelter kits to 5,100 displaced families, along with the delivery of non-food relief items to 18,000 internally displaced persons in Cameroon. These interventions aim to improve displaced persons’ access to safe and dignified shelter, reduce protection risks, and strengthen the resilience of affected communities.
On this occasion, Khaled Khalifa, Advisor to the High Commissioner and UNHCR Representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, praised the contribution of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, saying: “These agreements come at a critical time for the most vulnerable refugees and displaced persons in Burkina Faso and Cameroon, who continue to face daily challenges in securing basic needs and ensuring a safe and dignified life for their families. We express our appreciation to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre for its continued partnership and solidarity with the work of UNHCR.”
For his part, Engineer Ahmed Al-Baiz, Assistant Supervisor General at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, commented: “Within the framework of close cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center continues to support humanitarian initiatives aimed at protecting the most vulnerable families. The two agreements, which provide shelter assistance, non-food relief items and emergency packages for displaced communities and refugees in Burkina Faso and Cameroon, seek to enhance security, safety and dignity and improve living conditions, in addition to strengthening the resilience and stability of refugees and host communities.”
These two agreements reflect the ongoing partnership between UNHCR and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre in responding to humanitarian needs in displacement contexts, particularly in areas facing protracted crises and escalating humanitarian challenges. By providing timely shelter assistance and essential relief supplies, these projects will contribute to restoring safety, dignity, and stability for thousands of the most vulnerable displaced families.
