Objective
To strengthen national capacities on food security and nutrition analysis as well as regional coordination in order to scale up humanitarian preparedness and response in West Africa and the Sahel.
Activities implemented
• Coordinated the participation of FAO country offices in joint national pre-harvest assessments and provided financial and technical support to Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Sierra Leone for this purpose.
• Coordinated the participation of FAO country offices to the national joint assessment missions for market (February 2024); participated directly in the regional supervising team for the western basin and took part in regional consolidation of market assessments.
• Provided financial and technical support to the Cadre Harmonisé analyses in 16 countries and supported five trainings on the analysis for 195 participants across the region.
Results
• Enabled country office to estimate preliminary agropastoral production trends and figures critical to food security in the region.
• Promoted and participated in continuous capacity-building of analysts in country offices and at regional level, as well as food security focal points for the Cadre Harmonisé analysis in nine countries.
• Strengthened national capacities on food security, nutrition and resilience assessment and analysis in West Africa and the Sahel and improved coordination through the subregional.
