EAA note with deep sadness and regret, that ongoing insurgency in Burkina Faso has led to the closure of 300 schools, with teachers and children in hiding.

Despite the evident and growing pattern of purposeful and deliberate attacks on education in conflict areas, these attacks continue without accountability. And although they have received increased attention from UN bodies, Education Above All strongly believes that more needs to be done in order to protect students, educators, and education institutions from such violence.

Protecting Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC)

PEIC was created to promote and protect the right to education in areas affected by crisis, conflict and insecurity. PEIC focuses on strengthening the international legal framework that protects education and schools from attack during conflict, promoting the values of the rule of law, including the right to education. PEIC brings together practitioners and specialists in education, international law and child protection to protect the right to education.
