Burkina Faso – Killing of civilians, forced displacements (ECHO partners, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 07 July 2023)

  • On 5 July, a non-state armed group, riding on about 30 motorbikes, raided the locality of Bogande (Gnagna province, East region). They broke into houses in which they executed at least 12 inhabitants, including women, and set some houses on fire. Upon leaving, the armed men ordered the populations of neighbouring localities to leave or risk reprisals.
  • The increase in these attacks exacerbates the massive displacement of populations fleeing violence, thus accentuating humanitarian needs. According to data from the Operational Coordination Group of the rapid response, 35 085 new internally displaced persons were registered in April; 66 915 in May; and 12 750 in June 2023.
  • With these displacement flows and the rainy season, the need for shelter/NFI becomes a vital necessity, and the severity of the gap is worrisome with 95% of shelter and 83% of NFI needs not covered. In addition, 3,475,431 people are deprived of care due to the closure of 365 health centers and 345 operating at a minimum.
