The humanitarian situation in Burkina Faso has deteriorated sharply over the past year. As of 25 March 2020, 838,548 people had been forced to flee their homes, an increase of 7.54% compared to 29 February 2020. To date, more than 56% of displaced people have no shelter or adequate housing. The number of people in need of humanitarian assistance increased from 1.5 million in December 2019 to 2.2 million in January 2020. According to the Humanitarian Needs Overview, 948,000 people need urgent protection and 1.5 million people depend on humanitarian health assistance. Prior to the closure of schools caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19), 339,909 students were already deprived of access to education as a result of the closure of 2,512 schools due to insecurity. In 2020, the Humanitarian Response Plan is appealing for US$ 312 million to provide emergency multisectoral assistance to 1.8 million people targeted by the humanitarian community.
