This literature review assesses Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programs in Africa, with a focus on aligning nutritional outcomes and economic empowerment of smallholder farmers. It synthesizes evidence from case studies in Kenya, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Nigeria, and Rwanda. The review evaluates centralized versus decentralized procurement models, explores gender equity and nutritional impact, and examines innovations such as biofortification, fortification stations, and digital supply chain platforms. It proposes actionable policy integration strategies and highlights gaps in sustainability, monitoring, and long-term impact assessment.
