Sofia (dpa) - Another wave of floods in Bulgaria has claimed at least one life and caused more damage, civic protection authorities said Tuesday.
Officials said an 85-year-old woman who was killed when her flooded house collapsed.
Heavy rainfall caused flooding in around Sofia, in central Bulgaria and the hills around Gabrovo, which had been without electricity since Monday evening.
The Jantra River rose above its banks in Veliko Tarnovo, as did several lakes, submerging and damaging roads and bridges.
Bulgaria, as well as its northern neighbour Romania, was hit by a series of floods this summer, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. In nine districts a state of emergency remained in force since last month. dpa el bb ds
