Bulgarian Red Cross initiated a humanitarian aid for the victims of the floods in the country

The National Public Council of the Bulgarian Red Cross decided on the most efficient way to spend the financial support for the victims of the floods.

The second meeting of the National Public Council for the distribution and allocation of the raised funds took place on the 15th of July 2014. The members of the Council are representatives of different national institutions, the church and media organizations. They received detailed information about the current situation in the affected regions and about the received financial support. The expert analysis of the damages caused by the disaster was also provided. Information about the specific needs of the victims was taken into consideration for the distribution of the funds.

After the detailed estimation of the damages and the assessment of the realistic capabilities of the regional institutions to cope with the disaster, the experts concluded that Dobrich has been affected the most. According to that, the members of the National Public Council took the decision to distribute the funds in the following way:

  1. 50 % of the raised funds will be spend on humanitarian aid for the victims in Dobrich

  2. 40 % of the raised funds will be spend on humanitarian aid for the victims in Varna

  3. 10 % of the raised funds will be spend on humanitarian aid for the victims in Veliko Turnovo

The financial support will be distributed by the Regional Public Councils of Dobrich, Varna and Veliko Turnovo, whose members will be representatives of regional institutions and representatives of the Bulgarian Red Cross. Priority will be given to the most affected households and the most vulnerable groups. Bulgarian Red Cross will prepare a report with the names of the people in need to whom financial funds will be distributed and also with detailed information about the specific help that they will receive.

Further details about the distribution of the financial support will be given to the public in the near future.
