HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
Amplifying Refugee Voices at G20Social UNHCR and refugee representatives actively participated in the — - a pioneering initiative by the Brazilian presidency to create a space for civil society to contribute to the priorities of the G20 summit. Among the priorities brought forward were the impact of climate change and disasters, the relevance of the fight against poverty and hunger for displaced populations as well as the urgent needs to solve conflicts and violence. The G20 Social concluded with a declaration that was presented to President Lula.
Also, in a joint collaboration of UNHCR and IOM, representatives from the municipalities of New York, Sao Paulo, and Montevideo discussed how cities manage the arrival of refugees and migrants in their societies at the Urban20.
