BRAZIL - FLOODING/MUDSLIDES

Landslides & flooding due to torrential rains have affected the State of Santa Catarinain southern Brazilsince November.

119 deaths have been reported, with 31 people missing. An estimated 33,000 persons have been displaced. 27,410 are being housed in shelters. 5 main highways were blocked.

A state of emergency has been declared by the local government in the 9 affected municipalities. 2000 families have received aid from the Brazilian Red Cross and PADRU.

PANAMA - FLOODING/MUDSLIDES

Persistent rains over the last two weeks in the western region of Panamahas caused flooding and mudslides in Chiriquí; Bocas del Toro and ColonProvinces. Some communities in Bocas del Toro remain isolated.

10 deaths reported; 6 injured; 6 missing; 23,600 thought to be affected; 1356 homes have been destroyed or damaged, nearly 12,000 people are in shelters.

Evacuations of the worst affected areas, search and rescue operations and food distribution have been carried out by the Naval Service with the support of US SouthCom and the Civil Aeronautics Authority. The NationalEmergencyOperationsCenteris coordinating these activities.

COSTA RICA - FLOODING

Flooding due to persistent rains due to the cold front has mainly affected the Huetar Atlántica region on the North East of Costa Rica. The province of Talamanca is only accessible by helicopter. 59 communities remain isolated.

1 person dead and 1 person missing; 400 people evacuated; 5,400 sheltered. 12,000 people directly affected.

A red alert was declared on December 3rd for the Huetar Atlantica and Herida districts.

$3.6 million has been released by the government for relief efforts. The National Emergency Committee and the CCSS Hospital are coordinating the relief response. Surveillance teams have been sent to the area.

COLOMBIA - FLOODING /HEAVY RAINS (UPDATE)

Heavy rains have affected the Department of Antioquia in the North West of Colombia since mid September.

199 municipalities in 24 of the 32 regions of Antioquia have been affected.

59 deaths, 18 missing and 91 injured have been reported to date. It is estimated that 935,500 persons have been affected by the effects of flooding. 2,020 homes destroyed; 78,200 homes have been damaged. 2 Hospitals affected in Valle del Cauca.

Assistance being provided in the most critical areas through trained volunteers and technical brigades. An inter-agency response center has been established in Cali for monitoring the situation
