Brazil (Update)
On 16 January 2025, the Civil Protection of Minas Gerais provided updated information on the heavy rains in the state. According to the updated information, between 27 September 2024 and 16 January 2025, a total of 26 fatalities (an increase of 1 since the 14 January update) and the displacement of 3,794 residents due to weather-related incidents (an increase of 241) have been reported. On 15 January 2025, the Brazilian Communication Agency (EBC, per its Portuguese acronym) reported that heavy rains displaced 1,228 people and affected 2,211 others in the state of Bahia. Wildfires
United States of America (Update)
On 16 January 2025, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided an update on the wildfires affecting Southern California. In Los Angeles County, 82,000 mandatory evacuations remain in effect (a decrease of 1,000 since the 16 January report), and 6 shelters continue to operate, housing 683 people (a decrease of 85). Additionally, 18 health care facilities have been evacuated, 75 are under monitoring, and 6 clinics remain closed. To date, 5,866 homes have been destroyed, representing an increase of 2,922.
