Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - Five people
were killed in flooding sparked by heavy rains in the Brazilian state of
Rio de Janeiro, bringing the death toll up to 13, Globonews television
said.
The rains led to mudslides that killed
eight people in the neighbouring state of Sao Paulo on Monday and Tuesday,
reports said.
In the incidents in Rio, a landslide buried a home in the city of Niteroi early Wednesday, killing a 39-year-old man and his nine-year-old daughter.
A 19-year-old woman and her two infant children aged eight months and two years were rescued alive.
The other fatalities in the region, also caused by landslides from the flooding, occurred in Paulo de Fronty and Paty de Alferes in the southern part of Rio state.
