Brazil - Severe weather, update (INMET, media, WHO PAHO) (ECHO Daily Flash of 04 December 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds continued to affect southern Brazil, mainly the Rio Grande do Sul state since late November, causing several severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to media reports, as of 4 December, 50 people have been injured, of which two were severely injured, due to a strong wind-related incident occurred in Arroio do Tigre municipality, central Rio Grande do Sul state. In addition, media also reports around 50 damaged houses across the Carazinho city area, north-western Rio Grande do Sul state. Moreover, damage to infrastructures was reported in 35 cities across the state.
  • Over the next 48 hours, drier conditions are expected over the Rio Grande do Sul state.
