Brazil - Severe weather (media, INMET) (ECHO Daily Flash of 14 January 2026)

  • From 10 to 11 January, strong winds, a tornado, thunderstorms, hailstorms and heavy rainfall affected the Paraná state (southern Brazil), causing several severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • As of 14 January, media reports two injured persons, around 350 damaged houses and approximately 1 200 affected people across the area of the São José dos Pinhais municipality and the nearby Curitiba city area (the capital of the Paraná state), both in eastern Paraná, mainly due to a tornado event.
  • Over the next 96 hours, more strong winds and rainfall with locally heavy rainfall are still forecast over most of the Paraná state.
