Brazil - Severe weather, floods and landslides, update (Agencia Gov, INMET, NOAA-CPC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 3 March 2026)

  • The death toll continues to rise after the recent events of heavy rain, flooding and landslides that in Minas Gerais and the neighboring states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
  • According to national authorities, 72 fatalities have been recorded (65 in the municipality of Juiz de Fora and seven in Ubá). One person remains missing in Ubá, and nearly 10 000 residents have been displaced from Juiz de Fora, Ubá and Matias Barbosa municipalities, all located in Minas Gerais.
  • For the next 48 hours, moderate rainfall is still expected across the affected areas as well as across eastern, central and western Brazil. Red warnings for heavy rain are in effect for the states of Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pará, Pernambuco, Piauí and Sergipe.
