Heavy rainfall and strong winds affected Rio Grande do Sul , the southernmost state of Brazil and the neighbouring Santa Catarina state over the past few days, causing floods and severe weather-related incidents, mainly due to the strong wind that have resulted in casualties and damage.
In Santa Catarina state, media report as of 12 May, two fatalities in the area of Palmistos municipality and Caibi municipality and six injured people in Mondaí municipality. In addition, media also report 20 displaced families and 150 damaged houses across the state.
In Rio Grande do Sul state, media report 13 displaced people and two damaged houses in Santa Maria municipality and approximately 100 damaged houses across the Soledade municipality.
Over the next 96 hours, no more rainfall is forecast over southern Brazil.
