The humanitarian impact caused by the heavy rain and floods that have been affecting the Rio Grande do Sul state in southern Brazil, has increased.
According to media reports as of 22 June, four people died, across Candelária, Caxias do Sul, Sapucaia do Sul, one person is still missing in Candelária, and one has been injured in Sapucaia do Sul. More than 7,300 people have been displaced across 127 municipalities, and almost 1,071 shelters have been set up. Damage to roads and bridges has also been reported.
The Jaguari municipality declared a public calamity, and 21 municipalities are in emergency situations.
On 23-24 June, more heavy rainfall is expected across the Rio Grande do Sul state.
