Brazil - Floods (NOAA-CPC, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 07 April 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall in the Southeast Region of Brazil, particularly in the cities of Petrópolis, Angra dos Reis, and São Paulo, has resulted in flooding and triggered a massive landslide on 6 April, causing displacement and destruction.
  • According to media reports and as of 6 April, 380 people have been displaced and are being sheltered in four shelters in the municipality of Angra dos Reis, located in the southwest of Rio de Janeiro state, in the Southeast Region of Brazil. The state had declared a state of emergency on 5 April. The local civil defense has issued further alerts for a high risk of landslides on 6 April for the Baixada Fluminense, Costa Verde, Sul, and Serrana regions. Non-emergency health services have been suspended.
  • Over the next 48 hours, moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is expected in the affected region of Rio de Janeiro state.
