Minister of Minerals Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila has said the emergency four boreholes project in Bobirwa constituency are enough to provide adequate water to residents in the area.
Speaking during the commissioning of the four boreholes and two booster pumps on September 1 at Mathathane kgotla, Mr Mokaila said the boreholes had adequate water yield to supply water to the villages of Mathathane, Tsetsebye, Molalatau and Bobonong while the corporation was still awaiting for the construction of a pipeline from Thune Dam that would permanently address water situation in the area by 2015.
He said despite the four boreholes and the two booster pumps, there were still concerns by residents of Mathathane and Tsetsebye that water was not reaching them as expected.
Mr Mokaila explained that one of the reasons that cause water shortage was due to old pipes inherited from the council water unit that continue to burst especially those that supply water to Tsetsebye and Mathathane villages thereby disrupting water supply to those villages.
Another factor, the minister said might be a pipeline layout and design done by consultants and promised that his ministry would look into in a bid to rectify the problem.
Mr Mokaila said officials were working around the clock to ensure that tenders are awarded for the construction of a treatment plant and pipes that would ensure that the 10 villages in Bobirwa enjoys portable water in the near future.
He pleaded with residents to conserve water and desist from using portable water to water their livestock. Water, he said was charged according to usage and further pleaded with residents to pay their water bills.
Concerning power supply countrywide, Mr Mokaila said the Morupule B project was on the right track and expected to be fully functional next year.
He said Botswana Power Corporation has managed to address frequent power cuts and the situation has normalised.
Earlier, Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Tshenolo Tshebedi expressed concern about failure by WUC staff to attend to reports within a reasonable time and mentioned that water bills were exorbitant. Ends
