Europe — Western Balkans Annual Report (January-December 2024)

Attachments

The report provides an overview of the data collected in 2024 in the Western Balkans, highlighting the profiles of migrants, including age, sex, nationality, country of origin, and departure, as well as their education and employment status. It also details the transit countries that migrants traverse, along with their movement into and through the Western Balkans, whether they utilised facilitators to cross borders, their needs, and their overall costs and intended destinations. Additionally, it addresses experiences of violence, abuse, and exploitation alongside the intended destination countries of these individuals. Through this data analysis, the report aims to highlight the journeys and challenges migrants face while travelling into and through the Western Balkans.

IOM DTM interviewed 14,300 adult migrants in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Kosovo. These countries constitute the Western Balkans route, which is the scope of this report.
