WV Bolivia's relief efforts recognized publicly by national and local authorities

WV Bolivia continues its efforts to help flood-affected people in La Paz. Although several NGO=B4s, Government institutions and civil society have helped greatly, underwear, baby diapers, feminine hygiene items, and water is still desperately needed.
In response to these needs, WV Bolivia's ERT provided 128 families with underwear, baby diapers, feminine hygiene items, socks, T-shirts, school materials for children (backpacks, pencils, pens, notebooks, rulers, sharpeners) and personal hygiene items. Last Monday, 134 children were provided with school aprons and school supplies. So far, WV Bolivia's help has been valued at USD15.000. But, there is more to be done.

In Caranavi, the main road is affected by landslides and unstable bridges. La Paz, Alto Beni and Guanay provinces are unreachable from Caranavi due to the road status. Travel time to Caranavi is 7 hours by car and is a dangerous trip because of rain and landslides.

There are 250 families affected in Caranavi ADP (US sponsored), (Utasa, San Martín, El Platanal, Mercurio, 13 de Diciembre, Villa Juanita, Villa La Paz neighborhoods) and in Taypiplaya (USA sponsored) and Chijchipani (Australia sponsored) ADP's 250 families, which totals 500 families affected in the whole Caranavi province.

Secondary effects are expected as a result of the rains - more landslides and collapsed bridges. Potable water is contaminated, neighborhoods are unhygienic due to sewers overflowing and 31 houses have been destroyed or are at risk.

Blankets, mattresses and tools to clean and construct temporary shelters are currently needed.
