Secretary-General Kofi Annan's personal
envoy to Bolivia, José Antonio Ocampo, is scheduled to arrive in that country
today to assess how the United Nations can be helpful to Bolivia as it
tackles the political transition and economic issues.
Mr. Ocampo is se to observe the current
situation in Bolivia and report back to the Secretary-General, a UN spokesman
said today. Mr. Ocampo is also expected to meet with all parties concerned
during his trip.
Last week, in announcing plan's to send Mr. Ocampo to Bolivia, Mr. Annan said through a spokesman that he strongly believes that Bolivians should resolve their differences peacefully and democratically and that the rule of law should be respected in resolving the current political crisis in the country.
