Bolivia: More flooding in Caranavi

by Andres Vera - Communications Manager
Intense rain has caused the Yara River in Caranavi community, 150 kilometers from Bolivia's capital La Paz, to overflow. The city and its provinces have experienced flooding which has affected 100 families and displaced 225 people.

Information gathered by World Vision Bolivia's Relief Team in Caranavi has reported that 200 houses were flooded with 10 collapsing, one owner was killed as a result and another severely injured.

Several bridges, roads and communications were destroyed due to hill slides, floods and blockades. The situation is critical since local authorities have stated that the river is rising dangerously and is likely to overflow in a more intense manner in following days.

School has been suspended because classrooms are flooded, affected or at risk. The most worrying element currently is the lack of clean, potable water and the fear of associated disease.

World Vision has delivered mattresses, blankets and potable water to affected families.
