Bolivia - Social unrest (DG ECHO, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 23 October 2024)

  • Since 14 October, road blockades in Bolivia are leading to shortages of fuel, products and soaring prices.
  • While the initial aim of the demonstrations was to prevent the possible arrest of former president Evo Morales, who is under investigation for allegedly abusing a minor during his time in office, his supporters are now protesting against the economic management of the government of President Luis Arce.
  • By 18 October, the transport sector had lost more than USD 8.6 million due to the protests, according to estimates by the economy ministry.
  • DG ECHO is monitoring the situation with its humanitarian partners.
