Bolivia – Severe Weather (REDLAC, NOAA, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 23 December 2015)

  • Heavy rains and thunderstorms affected northern Bolivia over the last few days, causing floods and rivers to overflow, especially in the department of Beni. According to media, one person died in Guayaramerín on 20 December, due to floods.

  • As of 21 December, a state of emergency has been declared in 23 municipalities of Bolivia, due to heavy rains and floods; while 27 municipalities of the departments of Oruro, Cochabamba and Chuquisaca are in a state of emergency, due to drought. Since 1 November, over 6 000 families have been affected by drought.

  • Over the next 48 h, moderate to locally heavy rains may affect northern and central-western Bolivia.
