Heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms have been affecting central and northern Bolivia, in particular the departments of La Paz, the worst affected, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando, and Oruro, since 6 January, causing floods, rivers overflow, landslides, and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
Media report, as of 10 January, 17 fatalities, of which 16 across the La Paz department, and one more in the Santa Cruz department, one still missing person, and a total of more than 16,000 affected families across 36 municipalities throughout all the aforementioned affected departments.
Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecast over most of the country, including the already affected area.
