Following the heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms that have been affecting most of Bolivia since the beginning of the rainy season (November 2024), the humanitarian impact has increased. The most affected departments by recent floods, landslides and severe weather-related incidents are La Paz (western Bolivia), Santa Cruz (eastern Bolivia), and Cochabamba (central Bolivia).
Media report, as of 26 March, 50 fatalities, eight still missing persons, more than 368,700 affected families - with a large part of these displaced - and 770 destroyed houses across 204 municipalities throughout the country. The worst affected is the Palos Blancos municipality, La Paz department. In addition, 109 municipalities declared the state of emergency.
Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecast over northern and central Bolivia.
