Operational Updates
- From 29 April to 2 June, the National Logistics Preparedness Working Group, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock with support from WFP, reviewed agency-specific manuals for logistics response and coordination before and during emergencies. This review followed a workshop in March 2024 where 13 manuals were developed. The workshops were part of WFP Logistics Cluster field-based preparedness project, which will be transitioned to the national logistics desk stakeholders in Bhutan by mid-year. Some of the achievements include the National Logistics Five-Year Plan, National Logistics Operation Manual, and agency-specific manuals.
- To enhance the quality and sustainability of the National School Feeding and Nutrition Programme in Bhutan, WFP organized a Systems Approach to Better Education Results (SABER) exercise from 29 April to 17 May. The exercise brought together key stakeholder representatives from health, education, food regulatory authority and the monastic body to ensure a healthier and brighter future for the children of Bhutan.
- WFP and specialists on Consolidated Livelihood Exercise for Analysing Resilience (CLEAR) analysed community consultation findings on climate, livelihoods, food security and value chains for Bhutan’s Building Resilient Commercial Smallholder Agriculture (BRECSA) project. The analysis, carried out from 26 May to 1 June, will inform agriculture resilience plans for the four districts of Zhemgang, Trongsa, Tsirang and Sarpang where the project is implemented. CLEAR will provide recommendations for promoting smallholder agriculture in Bhutan. BRECSA is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock with support from WFP, Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) and International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD).
- An inception workshop for the development of website and MIS (Management Information System) for BRECSA project was organized on 30 and 31 May in Tsirang. The workshop aimed to provide a platform for the project stakeholders to discuss and validate system requirements, including the incorporation of indicators, targets, and other information into the system. The system will help monitoring, reporting and knowledge management of the seven-year project, which promotes smallholder agriculture in four districts of Zhemgang, Tsirang, Sarpang and Trongsa districts. The MIS will be completed by October 2024.
- In an effort to ensure continuity of internet connection during emergencies, WFP upgraded its existing VSAT (very small aperture terminal) from May to June. This upgrade will benefit the United Nations agencies in the UN House with faster connectivity during their emergency response.
