Operational Updates
School – Feeding programme

As of March, the National Integrated School Feeding Programme (PNASI) is in operation at 5,702 out of 5,709 targeted schools, with canteens running in 5,698 schools, achieving a 99.9 percent operational rate.

Over 1.16 million school children are estimated to have received meals in the canteens from January until March.

The four schools formerly closed in the department of Alibori re-opened and will be provided with food to operate their canteens starting end of April to June 2024.

WFP commenced the provision of food for the third quarter to 5,469 schools amounting to 8,000 mt.

WFP Country Director and the Minister of Nursery and Primary Education participated in the commemoration of the 9th edition of the African School Feeding Day held in Burundi on 1 March 2024.
Emergency

WFP trained local actors on utilizing the nutrition response package in emergency response. Additionally, recommendations of the capitalization workshop were shared with the Government and a joint road map is now in place ready for implementation.

WFP is aiming to support over 25,500 new internally displaced people (IDPs), refugees and asylum seekers in the next three months.
