Highlights

  • On 11 April, a high-level visit by Benin’s First Lady and the Director of Claudine Talon Foundation was conducted in the district of Ifangni lo learn more about WFP-supported school meals programme.

  • The Ministry of Education organized on 26 and 27 April, the second Systems Approach for Better Education Results (SABER) workshop with all stakeholders (including those benefiting from WFP’s support).

  • Food dispatch for the last quarter of the school year is still ongoing. WFP is providing school meals to 101,297 children for 21 days instead of 55 during this last trimester.

Operational Updates

High-level visit of WFP’s schools meals programme A high-level visit by the First Lady Mrs. Claudine Talon, and the Director of the Claudine Talon Foundation was conducted on 11 April in one of WFP-assisted schools, in Doke (Ifangni district). She was accompanied by the Country Director and other WFP staff.

SABER workshop

The Ministry of Maternal and Primary Education through the Directorate of School Canteens organized in partnership with WFP, the second SABER workshop in Cotonou on 26 and 27 April 2017. Technical support was provided by the regional bureau in Dakar during the workshop. About 60 participants took part in this two-day workshop including representatives from various ministries (Basic Education Family, Health, Finance, Development, and Agriculture), as well as various stakeholders involved in Education and schools meals activities (such as Catholic Relief Services, other non-governmental organizations, and Parent-Teacher Associations).

Food delivery

Food deliveries for the last trimester are being conducted to assist 101,297 children in 562 schools. The available tonnage will cover only 21 out of 55 school days
