Following the deterioration of the security situation in Niger (Dosso region) and the murder of civilians by non-state armed groups, an influx of about 2 400 forcibly displaced Nigerien people (with more than 70% children) has been observed towards Northern Benin (Alibori department). Those people are without any resources. They do not benefit from any humanitarian assistance and rely exclusively on local authorities and communities’ solidarity.

Benin is facing increasing insecurity incidents and related forced displacements including in zones further away from the Burkina Faso borders and along the Nigerian border.

Over the last two years, an estimated 26,000 people fleeing insecurity in Burkina Faso have been hosted in the two Northern departments, and about 13,000 people have been internally displaced - both as preventive and reactive moves - following attacks in Northern Benin. More recently, the Alibori department is also hosting people fleeing insecurity in Niger.
