Families affected by flooding as a result of the passage of Tropical Depression #16, are being further assisted.
Starting today, NEMO with the full support of Government, along with the Cayo Disaster Emergency Committee, have launched off the replacement of household items in the Cayo District.
Items that were distributed today to 25 families in Calla Creek and 9 families in Bullet Tree Falls Villages in the Cayo District include:
- Butane Stoves
- Gas Tanks
- Sofa Sets,
- Refrigerators and Mattresses.
In addition, houses that were affected by flood waters are also being repaired.
This humanitarian effort is aimed at replacing main household items lost by the affected families, with items being furnished by local suppliers from throughout the country.
Before delivery is made, Village Chairpersons are contacted and informed of what household items are being taken to the village and the recipient families.
Upon arrival, the items, based on a Damage Assessment Report, are handed over to the affected families by name. In addition to their signature, a representative from NEMO's Relief Supplies Management Committee is also on hand to countersign the documents.
Based on other Damage Assessment Reports, this humanitarian aid by Government through NEMO will be extended to the Belize, Orange Walk and Corozal Districts that were also affected by flooding.
