Belize: NEMO press release No. 23, 3 Nov 2008

With effect from tomorrow Tuesday November 4th 2008, Douglas Village in the Orange Walk District will be quarantined. Due to the flood waters in Douglas Village that situation poses a serious health risk and the village has to be evacuated. Residents must leave the area once the quarantine goes into effect.

The District Emergency Committee in Orange Walk will be enforcing the quarantine. Most people have already evacuated from Douglas and are sheltering in Nuevo San Juan and San Pablo.

With additional people going to shelters in Nuevo San Juan and San Pablo, this may create an overcrowded situation. NEMO appreciates where possible, for evacuees to shelter with relatives or friends and to advise the District Emergency Committee where they will be staying so that NEMO can continue to provide support to them.
