Committee Chairpersons of the National Emergency Management Organization met yesterday at the NEMO Headquarters in the City of Belmopan.

They were given an update on the conditions in the flooded areas across the country and the work being carried out by the District Emergency Committees. Reports were given by Chairpersons from the following key committees: Damage Assessment, Housing and Shelter, Relief Supplies, Transport and Health.

The Committee Chairpersons of NEMO also heard from the Acting Chief Meteorological Officer. According to the CMO, the main flood crest along the Belize River has not yet reached the Belize River Valley area in the Belize District. He says waters in the BELRIV Area as it is commonly referred to, will continue to rise. The Chief Meteorological Officer also said that there has been unprecedented flooding in Ladyville Village and the Lords Bank Area. Flooding is expected to continue well into next month.

At yesterday's meeting, it was also reported that to date, there are no significant outbreak of illnesses and health teams remain on high alert in flooded areas across the country.

The NEMO Committee Chairpersons will again be meeting tomorrow.
