Highlights

  • Rohingya Refugee Situation: Bangladesh continues to host 1,102,566 Rohingya refugees (51% of whom are children) from Myanmar, residing in 33 densely populated camps across Cox’s Bazar District. Additionally, 36,920 refugees are living in Bhasan Char.
  • New Arrivals: A total of 93,522 new refugees have crossed the border since 2024, marking the eighth year of the protracted Rohingya refugee crisis, with no durable solution in sight.
  • UNICEF’s Response: UNICEF reached 20% of its HAC target this quarter, providing multi-sectoral services to 418,557 people (244,396 children, 216,972 females, and 381,056 Rohingya refugees).
  • Public Health Emergency: Public health emergencies continue to affect vulnerable populations. Up to 578,325 cases of Acute Watery Diarrhoea have been reported nationwide, showing a 2.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Additionally, between 23 June 2024 and 1 March 2025, 581 cholera cases were reported in the Rohingya camps.
  • WASH Services: UNICEF continues to provide quality WASH services to areas affected by the 2024 Eastern Flood during the early recovery phase, with 56,446 people receiving quality WASH services.
  • Education in Cox’s Bazar: Total enrolment in education facilities across Cox’s Bazar (camps), Bhasan Char (BC), and host community programmes reached 237,884 children.
  • Funding Gap: UNICEF faces a significant funding gap of US$114.8 million (61% of the 2025 HAC appeal), limiting our ability to fully meet the priority needs of vulnerable children, women, and persons with disabilities in Bangladesh.
