Half a Million Homeless
Initial estimates of 65,000 individuals affected by the storms are being revised after a recent report suggested that the number of displaced people may be closer to half a million. The army, local administrations and NGOs are providing food, medicine, water and tents to survivors.
Agriculture has been severely hit by the storms, with over 3,400 hectares of farmland submerged when the Khoyai river burst its banks. A further 5000 hectares were partially submerged by the river.
