Disease outbreak situation:

From 30 July to date (19 August 2007), 73,600 cases with 15 deaths from diarrhoea have been recorded from the flood affected areas in Bangladesh. (Case Fatality Rate = 0.02%).

Summary of disease outbreak situation:

- A total of 7812 people across the country have been attacked by water-borne diseases in the last 24 hours, while 2575 were afflicted by diarrhoea, 688 suffered Acute Respiratory Infection, 717 had skin diseases, 257 had eye diseases and 3468 suffered from other diseases. A total of 883 diarrhoea patients were admitted to ICDDRB in the last 24 hours (as on 19 August 2007).

- Skin and eye diseases, respiratory tract infections and diarrhoea continue to spread in floodaffected areas.

- About 73600 People have been attacked by diarrhea across the country so far and 15 people have died. The worst diarrhea affected districts are: Dhaka, Jamalpur, Tangail, Sirajgonj, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Kishoregonj, Netrokona, Sherpur and Manikgonj.

- The death toll due to drowning, snakebite and other diseases and floods went up to 564 from 30 July 2007, because 10 more deaths were reported to the control room DGHS in the last 24 hours (as on 19 August 2007).
