The situation remains dire for the more than one million Rohingya refugees taking shelter in Bangladesh. With no end in sight to the human rights crisis in Myanmar, the number of refugees is predicted to grow. Without legal status, freedom of movement outside the camps, or access to sustainable livelihood opportunities, the Rohingya refugees are reliant on humanitarian assistance. However, funding constraints regularly push WFP to consider cutting the $12 per month rations to continue to provide support. In 2023, two rounds of food ration cuts occurred, which were restored by 2024 thanks to generous donor support. WFP is seeking an additional $120 million before 01 November 2025 to continue providing food to the world's most vulnerable people. This modelling seeks to illustrate why cutting rations by any amount is a desperate measure that cannot be resorted to again.
