ISCG Situation Report: Rohingya Refugee Crisis, Cox’s Bazar | September 2020

• As of 30 September, 261 confirmed cases of COVID-19 had been identified in the Rohingya refugee camps (151 new cases in September) with 8 deaths, according to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR). Testing significantly increased throughout the month, with the total number of tests reaching 10,988, an increase of almost 50 per cent from August.

• 4,506 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 65 deaths were reported in Cox’s Bazar District, according to the IEDCR.

• Violence between two criminal groups in the camps escalated towards the end of the month. ISCG – on behalf of the humanitarian community – continued to liaise with RRRC and law enforcement authorities, who worked to restore law and order, to ensure the safety and security of refugees and nearby communities, as well as delivery of life-saving protection and assistance.
